Almost Wordless Wednesday: Cabinet Card of a Young Woman
Can you help identify this woman? I have a few questions about the photo.
- What is the approximate date the photo was taken?
- What is the approximate age of the woman in the photo?
- What is the photographers name? I can easily read Oscar. Is the last name Dummar?
- It looks like a real formal photograph. What might have been the occasion for the photo?

To get you started, I found Oscar Dummer (and his family) in the 1900 U.S. Census, living in Queens, NY, born 1859 in Germany, occupation Photographer. Interestingly, in the 1910 U.S. Census, he and his family are living in the Bronx and his occupation is now R.R. Guard, Railroad. Fold3 has NYC Directories and I find Oscar Dummer, “photographs” at 433 6th Av. in 1885 and 1890.
Also the hairstyle and buttons down the front looks very similar to a photograph in Maureen Taylor’s “Fashionable Folks: Hairstyles 1840-1900″ which she dates to the late 1880’s.

Thank you for your feedback. This is one of those family photos I have which I believe is a family member, but am not quite sure who it is. Most of the old photos I have are not marked.
